With nearly half a million units sold in North America in 2017, it might look like the future can’t get much brighter for the Toyota RAV4. But that couldn’t be further from the case. The all-new fifth generation of this segment-launching crossover, the 2019 Toyota RAV4, debuted last month at the 2018 New York International Auto Show.
Keep reading to see why it looks like the RAV4’s best years are yet to come.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4: New Trims and Features
It all starts with upgraded powertrains. The 2019 RAV4 offers the choice of two: a 2.5L gas engine combined with an 8-speed Direct-Shift automatic transmission or a 2.5L hybrid engine paired with a Toyota Hybrid System transmission. Both have been designed to give the RAV4 a little more pop without sacrificing fuel economy.
Speaking of fuel economy, RAV4 engineers have devised Rear Driveline Disconnect technology to boost this crossover’s efficiency on the highway. They’ve thrown in Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive (AWD) to refine its driving manners — on-road and off.
The new RAV4 bears a resemblance to the larger 4Runner, and that’s no mistake. Manufactured under Toyota’s Next-Generation Architecture platform, the 2019 model sports a longer wheelbase, chiseled shoulders, and a more pronounced nose. That’s no mistake, either. Thanks to these updates, both visibility and ground clearance are improved.
And just wait until you see the cabin. Amenities like ventilated seats, a panoramic moonroof, and a standard Qi wireless charger await every ride.
The RAV4 is always a shoe-in for safety awards, and the 2019 model doesn’t plan on changing that. With Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0, the new generation expands upon Toyota’s groundbreaking predictive safety technology. This safety suite integrates the following features:
- Pre-Collision System w/ Pedestrian Detection
- Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Lane Departure Alert w/ Steering Assist
- All-new Lane Tracing Assist
- All-new Road Sign Assist
Even at the base trim level, the 2019 RAV4 knows how to put on a show. This compact SUV houses an Entune™ 3.0 audio system with a 7” touchscreen that sits above the center stack — and the accessories to go along with it. Verizon Wi-Fi connectivity, Apple CarPlay™ compatibility, and Amazon Alexa hands-free accessibility come standard.
But if you want to spice things up a bit, you can tack on features like JBL premium audio and SiriusXM® Radio.
